Centenarian, Dorothy Flowers, turned 108 on Tuesday, October 22, and her friends at the care home where she lives social media post requesting for people to send her birthday cards went viral. She is said to be the 68th oldest person in Great Britain.
Her friends at the home wanted to surprise her on her birthday and yes, they succeeded at it as the birthday girl got 670 cards for her special day and a few gifts of champagne from all over the world.
Flowers’ resident experience manager, Helene Ballinger, explained that the centenarian who is the oldest inhabitant at the home can credit her longevity to drinking champagne.
She also revealed that Dorothy loves people being around her and will sit with them at the reception desk daily.
Ballinger also said that champagne is the only thing they ever see Dorothy finish a glass of.
Though it was reported that the aged woman now struggles to speak these days, the smile on her face says it all.
Ballinger said that the number of cards she got surprised the celebrant and it helped make her day very special indeed. She noted that Flowers is always the happiest when surrounded by people. The birthday cards must have made her feel much loved by many.
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported the story of a 104-year-old woman who claimed to have four children and 124 grandchildren. The centenarian revealed that eating native food and farming are the secret to her long life.

Despite being the daughter of the owners of Western Air Limited, one of the most successful Black-owned airlines in the world, Sherrxicia ‘Rexy’ Rolle, did not want to just watch it grow.
According to blackbusiness.com, at that early age, she got involved by helping out with baggage claim and currently, she is the company's vice president of operations and general counsel.
