- NPP's Ashanti regional chairman says Akufo-Addo's relatives in government are a blessing to Ghana
- Chairman Wontumi says former president Mahama does not have such 'competent' persons in his family
- He also praised Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for the good work he has done since he assumed office
The Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has taken a jab at former president John Dramani Mahama again.
According to the NPP chairman, the NDC 2020 flag bearer does not have ‘competent’ family members who can occupy government positions to help develop the country.
The man popularly known as Chairman Wontumi opined that the decision by President Akufo-Addo-Addo to make his cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta the Finance Minister was a step in the right direction since it is yielding fruitful results now.
He noted that the 2020 budget presented to Parliament on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, clearly shows the president has surrounded himself with competent people, unlike the "non-performing" ministers who made up former president Mahama's government.
He stated that "If Mahama had a competent minister like Ken Ofori-Atta to serve under him, he would have dropped on his knees and given thanks to God. You can't even compare his non-performing ministers to the current ones serving under President Akufo-Addo."
“President Akufo-Addo is fortunate to have a competent cousin by his side; if John Mahama had a competent cousin like Ken, he would have ruled Ghana for long but he has none,” Chairman Wontumi added.
The issue of President Akufo-Addo appointing his family members into various positions has become a debate in the country, with the opposition NDC accusing the NPP leader of nepotism.
The National Democratic Congress’ National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi for example has publicly accused Akufo-Addo of running a family and friends government.
He went ahead to list about 50 people serving under the current administration, who he claims are all relatives of President Akufo-Addo.
