Politicians have specialised in telling lies to get into power - Rawlings

Former president, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, has called for the core values of comradeship to be re-centered in the heart and soul of political parties, as he believes truth should be central in everything in governance.

Rawlings lamented the fact that some politicians have specialised in the act of telling lies as a way of getting power.

He, however, called on politicians to understudy traditional leaders to appreciate the value of truth in leading a nation, stating that traditional customs do not allow traditional leaders to lie.

The former president made the call on Thursday, November 14, 2019, when he called on Mr. Henry Ametefe, the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, to commiserate with him over the sudden demise of his wife a few days ago.

Former president Rawlings, in sympathizing with Mr. Ametefe, expressed the sincere condolences of the NDC fraternity and stated that the party will join him to offer a befitting send-off for his wife.

In other news, Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has revealed that the promises made by President Nana Akufo-Addo prior to 2016 elections have all been fulfilled.

According to Ofori-Atta, the Free Senior High School, One Villiage, One Dam and the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, have benefited many Ghanaians.

“Mr Speaker, I am proud to stand here and declare that the President has redeemed virtually all the pledges he made to the people of Ghana. Mr. Speaker, the numbers indeed don’t lie and I have some numbers that make interesting reading”, the Minister said.

Ofori-Atta said despite the limited resources available, the government has implemented its plans which include the introduction of stimulus packages for viable yet struggling businesses.
