Explainer: Why the Black Stars flew military aircraft to São Tomé

The Stars flew to São Tomé via a military aircraft on Sunday, November 17, 2019, and the Ghana Football Association Twitter account posted a senior national team boarding the military aircraft.

The Black Stars traveling with the military aircraft has generated furore on social media.

But inside news say the Stars had to travel the one and half hour journey with the Ghana Army plane to enable the players return quickly after the match to catch flights to their various clubs in Europe.

Many of the Black Stars players have to catch flights back to their clubs as soon as possible in order not to invite sanctions for late return.

The problem is, TAP Portugal, the commercial airline will not fly out of the island until Tuesday, November 19 evening – almost 28 hours after the game.

Thus, the option of the Ghana Air Force plane for the trip.

The Black Stars of Ghana will play São Tomé in a Group C encounter on Monday, November 18 at 1pm.

Ghana beat South Africa by 2-0 on Thursday, November 14, 2019.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that a video has popped up showing the new Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku visiting the team.

Kurt Okraku, during his visit, joined the team as they did their jama (singing) session after their final training on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.
