Floyd Mayweather, the former undisputed welterweight champion of the world, has announced that he will not be boxing again.
In what is his third retirement from the sport, Mayweather is very sure that he will not be returning to the ring as a boxer again.
Before this time, the legendary American boxer who has a professional record of 50 wins and no defeats or draws had retired two times and come back for big fight purses.
His first retirement came in 2007 but he swiftly returned to the ring. He retired again in 2015 after beating Manny Pacquiao but came back two years later to fight Conner McGregor in a match in which Mayweather reportedly bagged $300 million.
But this time, Mayweather is more concerned about his health now and will rather concentrate on other businesses than fighting.
In an interview with Reuters, the 42-year-old disclosed that though has received many offers, boxing was too brutal for him now while citing recent demises of boxers.
“I’ve got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth. Boxing is a very, very brutal sport. In the last few years a lot of fighters have passed away inside that squared circle,” Mayweather told Reuters.
While he is no more interested in fighting officially, Mayweather stated that he will be doing exhibition bouts claiming that he makes more money from the exhibitions than most boxers who are still fighting.
“I’ll still travel and do exhibitions. I make great money doing exhibitions — between $10 [million] and $30 million. I think I make more doing that than most fighters make fighting,” he bragged.
Aside from the exhibitions, Mayweather will be concentrating on his Money lifestyle brand, Mayweather Promotions, which promotes boxing matches, other sporting events, live concerts, and more alongside Mayweather Boxing + Fitness.
“We want you to come here, burn calories, be positive and have fun and in due time we will see the great results,” he told Reuters.
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that Mayweather has shown off one of his handsome sons on social media.
Earlier, the wealthy and popular boxing legend had caused a stir with the display of his amazing riches by as he flaunted his luxurious $25 million home in Los Angeles.
