Awal, the gentleman who invaded the pitch on the night Ghana beat South Africa 2:0 at the Cape Coast stadium risks going to jail for three months or paying a fine of GH¢2,400.

According to a news report by Myjoyonline.com, the 25-year-old who used to be a student at the Nalerigu Nursing Training College was also to sign a bond of good behaviour.

It would be recalled that Awal, after invading the pitch during the 2021 AFCON Qualifier, said that he had wanted to meet Thomas Partey, a wish which was granted.

Awal became popular shortly after his act and was hailed both on and off social media.

However, the police did not take the matter lightly as they slapped Awal with a public disturbance charge.

In an interesting twist, it was revealed that Awal was a 400m runner at Apam Senior High School.

This explains how he was able to escape the grips of his chasers for a good number of seconds when he got onto the pitch and interrupted the game between Ghana and South Africa.

It would also be remembered that the captain of the Black Stars, Andre Dede Ayew, pleaded for the release of Awal when he was convicted by the police.

The action of the captain was followed by a #FreeAwal hashtag which trended for some time on social media.
