Alhassan Mohammed: 25-year-old cleaner wins overall best student award at Kaaf University

A former cleaner, 25-year-old Alhassan Mohammed, as changed his title by earning the overall best student accolade at the 8th Congregation of Kaaf University College graduation.

While in school, Alhassan had to maintain his cleaning job to raise money to support himself because there was no help coming from anywhere else as his parents could not afford.

Before becoming a cleaner, he started as a labourer, a block fabricator, a pupil teacher, and 'susu' collector right after completing secondary school.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony at the 8th Congregation of Kaaf University College, Alhassan said his road to success has not been easy but, has become possible out of determination.

He borrowed the words of Wadon Emerson, which says: "Do not go where the path may lead you, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail".

He was determined, therefore, not to be discouraged by what was happening in his life, but to make a mark.

“Irrespective of the hurdles we face, we shouldn’t give up. These obstacles should rather encourage us to strive harder in order to attain our goals," Alhassan said.

After he enrolled at Kaaf, Mohammed got the chance to explore other opportunities.

He became resource personnel for Platinum Remedial Classes, a research consultant for MEA Research Consult, a research assistant in the business faculty.

His hard work, pulling a grade of CWA 81.47, also earned him the unique opportunity to be the valedictorian at the graduation.

Alhassan Mohammed expressed his sincerest gratitude to KAAF University for creating a very enabling platform for him to further his education and also his mother for her enormous support.

"I am who I am today because KAAF University understood my passion and determination, so they gave me a very flexible fee payment structure to enable me to work as a cleaner and student during my four years journey. I am very grateful to the authorities and everyone who supported me," Mohammed said with a shaky voice.

The newly graduated accountant further urged all to strive for excellence in their various fields of endeavour because each individual possesses the potential to achieve greatness.

To the Overall Best, Business Administration Student, Alhassan Mohammed remaining focused despite obstacles is the way to go.

He further urged his colleagues to never stop believing in themselves and never give up.
