Divina Maloum, a 14-year-old girl from Cameroun has been awarded the highly-coveted International Children's Peace Prize.
Face2FaceAfrica reports that Maloum has been very instrumental in promoting peace in the northern part of her country among many other amazing responsibilities.
The 14-year-old fought against extremist violence and radicalization and at the same time, was key in promoting child involvement in peacebuilding and sustainable development.
Maloum also paid visits to schools and admonished school-going children to stay away from radical groups such as Boko Haram.
In 2015, the then 10-year-old Maloum started the Children for Peace (C4P) Movement. Over the years, C4P has achieved various milestones under the leadership of Maloum.
C4P has fought for the rights of children engaged in early marriage, strongly advocated against the involvement of boys in dangerous and criminal armed groups and came against all extremes of violence.
Currently, the C4P has been able to link up 100 children across the length and breadth of Cameroun. The groups of children involved engage constantly in peace camps, peace clubs and in mosques.
Speaking after receiving the award, the young and passion-driven Maloum, mentioned the motivation behind her good deeds in the heartwarming words, “When the power of love will become greater than the love of power, man shall have another name which is God.”
The prize is annually awarded to children who fight for the rights of other children with boldness and is awarded by a Dutch organization called KidsRights.
Many young ladies keep doing amazing works as earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a lady prisoner from Sierra Leone has won a beauty pageant that was held for prisoners all over the country.
