Actor, entrepreneur and politician John Dumelo has called on local rice farmers to cut down the cost of the market price of local rice to make them more affordable to Ghanaians.
Our Manifesto: This is what YEN.com.gh believes in
According to Dumelo, Ghanaians would consume the local rice only if it is made affordable to citizens.
In a Facebook post by Dumelo sighted by YEN.com.gh, the budding politician said it was interesting that despite the shipping and duty costs that foreign rice dealers endure, imported rice was still cheaper than local rice.
In recent times, there have been massive media campaigns on the need to consume locally-produced rice.
Dumelo said it would interest Ghanaians to know that imported rice (after paying all the shipping and duties at the port) is still cheaper than our local rice.
He, however, used the opportunity not to fault local farmers for their high pricing.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m a farmer and a huge advocate for consumption of made in Ghana products but the patriotic patience of Ghanaians will quickly run out if our local rice farmers don’t do anything about their pricing.”
In other news, former president John Dramani Mahama has promised Ghanaians and the clergy that he will complete all projects started by the Akufo-Addo administration when he gets the mandate from Ghanaians in 2020.
The NDC flag bearer said, unlike President Akufo-Addo, his new government will be committed to complete all projects started by the NPP.
John Mahama made the comment when he spoke as the special guest of honor at the 75th-anniversary celebration of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana in the Volta region.
