Pupils from a popular international school in Accra have made a robot that is able to detect smoke and send information about the fire through a phone call.

According to a video interview on GhanaWeb cited by YEN.com.gh, the students are from Queensland International School.

In the video, the young boy, Nana Kyei explains that the robot is able to measure the concentration of gas and smoke in the air.

When the amount detected reached an alarming threshold, information is sent about the incident to a microcontroller. The microcontroller then alerts the appropriate owners of the place where the fire was detected.

The young boy explains that the invention is to prevent fire outbreaks as smoke can be detected and attended to before it erupts into a fire.

In the event of a fire, the device helps reduces the loss of property as the information can be seen early and acted upon.

Another crucial advantage is to save lives whenever there is a fire outbreak.

When information is received early about fire, logistics can be gathered quickly and rescue operations can get underway early enough to prevent loss of lives.
