A young man named Ismaël Essome Ebone has made a breathtaking invention that is helping the environment and helping fisherfolks with limited means at the same time.
The brilliant young man from Cameroon invented a boat made from plastic bottles which is cheaper than the conventional boats made from wood. Construction of wooden boats requires that trees are cut down, which is a loss to the environment.
In addition, wooden boats made no use of the many plastic wastes that lie in the surroundings as pollutants. Recognizing this problem, young Ebone came up with the amazing invention.
According to Face2FaceAfrica, Ebone graduated from the University of Douala with a degree in Environmental Management and Natural Resources.
His background equipped him with an interest in saving the environment and preserving natural resources.
The ingenious idea was birthed during his school days. He called it 'EcoBoats' when the idea came to fruition in 2011.
Now, Ismaël Essome Ebone runs a nonprofit organization named Madiba & Nature. Madiba & Nature focuses on the mission of collecting plastic waste and turning them into boats.
The boats are used by fishermen, especially those who are unable to afford the expensive canoes made of wood.
Apart from serving fisherfolks, the invention also finds great use in ecotourism as there have been demands from the tourism industry as well.
The plastic bottles that are picked up are bonded together with codes, making them into different shapes and sizes of boats for the different needs.
Ingenious Ebone won several awards for inventing the ‘EcoBoats’ and establishing Madiba & Nature.
Hurray! YEN.com.gh has won the ‘Online News Portal of the Year” award at NCA awards 2019. Click here to view the beautiful photos.
