Former president John Agyekum Kufuor, was on Friday, December 6, 2019, awarded the best farmer award in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of the Ashanti region.

The 81-year-old former leader is a native of Dabaa, which is in the Atwima Nwabiagya North district of the Ashanti Region.

From January 7, 2001, till January 7, 2009, he served as president of Ghana and also as the chairman of the African Union from 2007 to 2008.

YEN.com.gh has learned that he owns the JAK Farms, which consists of a 200-acre cocoa farm, 300 sheep, 100 cattle, as well as other crops and animals.

Per a report by dailymail.com.gh, he was adjudged as the winner after an inspection by the district directorate of the ministry of food and agriculture.

The former president was therefore presented with various farming tools such as a tricycle and fertilizers as well as a citation.

In other news, Charles Gyamfi from the Ahafo region has been awarded the 2019 National Best Farmer Award.

The 58-year-old farmer was announced as the winner at a ceremony held at Ho in the Volta region. Gyamfi has been a farmer for about 25 years and grows cocoa, cassava, maize, garden eggs and citrus fruits among others.

He also rears cattle, goats and poultry and owns five boxes of beehives and fish ponds. The father of five has over 100 employees and together, they also produce fruit juices with produce from his farm.

Per a report by myjoyonline.com, his cassava serves as a rich ingredient for gari which sells well in his community.

Gyamfi went home with a cash prize of the cedi equivalent of $100,000, which was presented by President Akufo-Addo.
