A man identified as Kwasi Stephen was captured in a video being supervised by a policewoman as he was sweeping the street after dropping a water sachet.
Adomonline.com reports that the man was spotted in the act by the Berekum Divisional Crime Officer, Franklin Yevugah.
Stephen was sighted as he rode his tricycle on the street and dropped a water sachet without realizing that there was a police officer in a car behind him.
In an interview with Adom News, the police officer mentioned that he traced the young man and caught him to return to the street he caused the litter and reverse his actions by sweeping the street.
“I was driving behind him and saw him drop the sachet so I took him to the station where he left his tricycle to sweep. This is to ensure the government’s sanitation agenda is achieved and we are going to continue this,” he said.
A video taken of the man while he swept showed that he was assigned a female officer who supervised him as he was sweeping his 'sins' away.
Kwasi Stephen, the man in question, stated that he was very sorry for his actions and was never going to repeat it.
He attributed the act also to the lack of dustbins in the locality and used the opportunity to make a request on the government to provide the litter boxes in the area.
The female officer who saw to it that a good job was done by Stephen did not have her name disclosed.
It is hoped that the punishment that was meted out to Stephen will serve as a deterrent to other citizens to stay away from the habit of littering the environment.
