Biography of John Mahama
Dramani attended primary school at the Achimota School in Accra and later joined the Ghana secondary school in Tamale. He continued his studies at the University of Ghana, Legon. In 1981, he received a bachelor’s degree in history. He flew to Ghana to work at the Japanese embassy as the information, Culture, and research official up until 1995. He ventured into the political world in 1996, where he went to the National Democratic Congress.
In 1997, he largely contributed to the growth of the telecommunications sector of the country. Dramani was chosen as Deputy Minister of Communications in April 1997, where he was promoted in November 1998 as the Minister of the same department. Mahama served in the same post for four years until the governing party National Democratic Congress (NDC) handed over power to the Patriotic Party’s government.
Since he was a role model to many and with a true spirit of leadership, he was re-elected in year 2000 for another four-year term. It is interesting to note that Mahama’s father was the first Member of Parliament of Gonja constituency and regional commissioner of his time. Just like the saying goes, “like father like son.” He was nominated as a Member of Parliament representing Bole/Bamboi constituency for four years.
