Five popular pubs and restaurants in Accra risk being closed down by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) if they don’t pay their taxes by Monday, December 16, 2019.

The Special Revenue and Mobilization Taskforce ultimatum follows a compliance check exercise whited revealed the five pubs have not been paying their taxes.
The exercise saw officials of the GRA visit some restaurants and pubs across the capital on Friday, December 13 between the hours of 7:40 pm and 10:30 pm.
The five outfits culpable are Kikibees restaurant, Yenkodi bar and restaurant, Excel Lounge, Figures pub, and Chez Afrique.
In an interview with Citi News, the coordinator of GRA’s special revenue mobilization tax force, Henry Sam, said the exercise is to ensure business pay their taxes to help boost the country’s revenue.
He also noted that the GRA is not happy when it has to close business but the operators of business must also learn to pat their taxes willingly with any force.
“So, the word of advice is that those who are operating should they should voluntarily [pay the taxes]. The exercise is not going to end in Accra but rather extend it to other regions. So, they should run to our offices and submit their returns to avoid any embarrassment”, he said.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is the Ghana administration charged with the task of assessing, collecting and accounting for tax revenue in Ghana.
The core mandate of the Authority is to ensure maximum compliance with relevant laws in order to ensure a sustainable revenue stream for government as well as the controlled and safe flow of goods across the county’s borders.
As part of efforts to improve compliance, the Authority is also required to assist taxpayers to understand and meet their tax obligations by providing robust and comprehensive advice.
