The Government of Ghana(GoG) has launched some measures to enable visitors travelling to Ghana during The Year of Return obtain visa-on-arrival.
The Ghanaian Embassy in the USA has explained the move as part of measures put in place to manage the pressure on issuing high volumes of visas.
This was revealed in a statement from the government while the country commemorates the Year of Return.
“The new arrangements are expected to simplify check-in procedures for boarding passengers and ease the burden on travellers who are unable to obtain Ghanaian visas in their countries of residence.
The new arrangements are valid until January 2020,” the statement said.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that, shortage of visas has hit the Ghana consulate in the United States following an upsurge in the number of prospective visitors to Ghana.
The Ghana consulate in the United State has announced that those seeking Ghanaian visas would no longer get it straightforward.
A statement from the consulate said, “we have exhausted our supply of visas, we are unable to fulfil any applications at this time. We are expecting a supply of fresh visas from the embassy shortly”
The Honorary Consulate General of Ghana in Houston, U.S.A, published the non-issuance of visas on its website.
The number of people seeking to obtain visas to come to Ghana increased exponentially due to the 'Year of Return' commemoration. 2019 was labelled by the Ghana government as the Year of Return, as it marks exactly 400 years after the first slave ship left Africa.
