The Chaplain of the Akropong School for the Blind, Rev Ebenezer Afful Eshun, is reportedly in police custody for allegedly raping a visually-impaired female student at the institution.
The arrest was after parents of the victim and some students who had earlier complained about the conduct of the Chaplain reported the matter to the police on Thursday, December 19, 2019 evening.
The Eastern Regional Police PRO, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, confirmed the arrest of Rev Eshun on Accra-based radio station, Starr FM.
“The chaplain has been arrested and he is in custody. This is a public interest case and that’s why the police is looking at it.
The students who chanced on the rape incident will also be invited to help with the investigation,” he said.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that tension was mounting between students and authorities at the Akropong School for the blind after a chaplain at the school was reportedly caught molesting a blind female student in a classroom.
According to the students, school authorities want to cover up the unfortunate incident which occurred on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
Speaking in an interview on the Morning Starr, the leader of the concerned students, Richmond, stated that they have the whole incident captured on video.
“When we caught the chaplain sexually abusing the lady, we recorded the lady and she narrated what happened. We also got hold of the teacher’s boxer shorts which was in the classroom where the act was ongoing," the student leader said.
