105-year-old Ghanaian veteran yet to get benefits for over 70 years after WWII (Photo)

- A 105-year-old World War II veteran has appealed to the authorities to hasten the process in retrieving his benefits

- Daniel Okai has been chasing his benefits for over 70 years now but has been unable to access it

- He has been directed to a number of state institutions which are involved in the process of working on his benefits but there is no good news yet

YEN.com.gh has learned that a Ghanaian who served in the Second World War, Daniel Okai, is yet to receive his benefits.

Okai, now aged 105, enlisted in the army on April 23, 1941, and survived ordeals in the Burmese jungle.

Decades after his exit from service, he is still facing challenges with respect to claiming his benefits.

Per a report by dailyguidenetwork.com, he continuously asks his daughter, Emelia Diana Okai “when are they going to pay me?”

And her constant reply is “I don’t know.”

His daughter once went to the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) and met an officer known as WO Segbefia.

The officer directed them to the Forces Record Office, Burma Camp and then to the pensions house and later to the Accountant General’s Department for a code, which they are yet to receive.

Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that the pension house at Burma Camp was constructed by a former Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt Gen Peter Blay, to facilitate pensions of veterans.

In other news, YEN.com.gh has learned that Akosua Smart, wife of celebrated radio presenter, Captain Smart, has made a rare appearance at the premises of the radio station.

Akosua left her nine –months old baby with her mother-in-law and stormed the studios of Adom FM after a story of a man who married a woman after she suffered from stroke was being discussed.

The man, 61-year-old Thomas Dorkenoo, was about to marry the woman of his dreams when the unfortunate incident befell her.
