Parliament has finally approved President Akufo-Addo's nomination for chief justice, Justice Anin Yeboah as Chief Justice of the republic of Ghana.
This follows the recommendation of the Appointments Committee for approval by the entire house by consensus.
He was vetted on Monday, December 23, 2019, by appointments’ committee and unanimously approved.
Justice Anin Yeboah was nominated by President Nana Akufo-Addo earlier this month to replace the Justice Sophia Akuffo who is on retirement.
According to him, if only the goat is from a friend he knows very well, and was being given to him not in exchange of a judicial favor, he would accept it without hesitation.
His comments were in response to a question asked by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu during the vetting on Monday, 23 December 2019 about whether or not gifts given to Justices of the Bench could include a goat.
“I know [the] honorable member very well [pointing to one of the members of Parliament’s Vetting Committee]. If he gives me a goat, I’ll take it. “That is a gift in the cultural setting,” Justice Anin-Yeboah said.
Few years ago, some judges of the superior and lower courts, were dismissed after they were captured on video accepting bribes and gifts from persons whose cases were before them.
