2019 had its ups and downs for all of the Ghanaian celebrities but fans were not left out of the controversial fights between these celebrities which are termed as 'beefs'.
Our Manifesto: This is what YEN.com.gh believes in
YEN.com.gh brings you some of the controversial and famous beefs which were witnessed in 2019.
1. Obofour and Obinim: Celebrities pastors Reverend Obofour and Bishop Daniel Obinim had several disagreements in 2019.
The two spiritual leaders of their churches mostly used their pulpit on Sundays to respond to each other and trade insults.
This beef went on for a while with even a junior pastor of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC) jumping ship for Obinim's International God's Way Church.
Obinim had stated that he is an “Angel”, while also claiming he was the spiritual father of Obofour.
Obofour also contested Obinim’s claim of being an 'angel'. According to him, Obinim’s claim is fake, insisting he, Obofour, is the original angel of God.
2. Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy: Ghanaian Dancehall acts, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have been at each other's throats for some time now.
Their beef spans from who is the best at what they do, who has got more money and also mocking the body features of each other among others.
Their beef escalated to its peak when both fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy engaged in a standoff on the stage of the 2019 VGMAs which led to Stonebwoy pulling out a gun in an attempt to defend himself.
The two finally called a truce and even held a peace conference to settle their differences.
3. Strongman and Medikal: In June 2019, Rappers Medikal and Strongman brought some spark to the industry after going head-to-head in a lyrical war.
Medikal stoked the fire when he released “To Whom It May Concern” – a song in which he jabbed some of his colleague rappers.
Strongman also lyrically came back hard at Medikal by releasing a series of diss songs to respond to Medikal.
4.Obofour and Nana Agradaa: Most Ghanaians woke up to hear that a pastor and a fetish priestess had gotten into it and were throwing jabs all over the place.
The priestess, Nana Agradaa, made a series of allegations against the founder of the Anointed Palace Church, Rev. Obofour, claiming Obofour is fake and often abuses his junior pastors.
5. Kelvyn Boy and Wendy Shay: In 2019, Wendy Shay also got into it with Kelvyn Boy. Their beef started at an event to broker peace between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
In the course of the programme, Kelvyn Boy appeared snubbed Wendy Shay, having exchanged pleasantries with everyone on the podium except the “Stevie Wonder” hitmaker.
Wendy Shay took offence with the gesture, and the involvement of her manager, Bullet, made matters worse.
6. Yvonne Nelson and Victoria Lebene: In December 2019, Ghanaian actress and movie producer, Yvonne Nelson attacked fellow actress Victoria Lebene and her marriage to entertainment journalist Eugene Osafo Nkansah.
Yvonne Nelson earlier posted on Twitter saying " Know your worth......" but a fan known as Charles Mensa quickly took a swipe at the actress saying, "Know ur worth ampa. So ur worth is having a baby for a married man?"
The response which was quickly posted on Eugene Osafo Nkansah's Instagram page did not go down well with Yvonne Nelson who literally cursed him saying, "The dumb Charles in kokonsah's post, you are cursed for life! Mark my words! Never bring my baby (daughter) into anything negative! God punish you! I've given you all the publicity you want! Enjoy it."
But Eugene Osafo Nkansah 's wife, Victoria Lebene jumped to her husband's defence by throwing a subtle jab at Yvonne Nelson.
"If we all decide to be opinion leaders, then we should be ready to receive other opinions, regardless of the sensitivity. People's opinions cannot be controlled, that's the sad part," Victoria Lebene posted on her Instagram page.
Yvonne Nelson who lost her cool over Victoria Lebene's post, attacked her marriage and future children saying; "Bunch of losers! Y’all are pathetic. Someone is supporting her hubby for posting a diss, don't worry. You’ll get pregnant/or is already pregnant, I pray you get treated with respect, and hope no one disrespects your baby. I pray your marriage lasts too."
7. Archipalago and Patapaa: Swedru-based artiste Patapaa Amisty also beefed Instagram vlogger, Achipalago.
Patapaa, in an interview, jabbed Achipalago, insisting his single titled “Me Gye” is a trashy song that only contained noise.
He said, for someone who usually criticised other artistes, he expected Achipalago to come out with something better.
Achipalago hit back in an Instagram post, describing Patapaa as "kwasia banku” for rubbishing his song.
The pair had a go at each other for some time before their beef came to an end.
