Ghana’s media landscape was this year hit with a wave of resignations as some of the country’s top journalists crossed carpets.
At least 37 media professionals either dropped the mic or pens, only to pick them elsewhere or move into business or corporate sectors.
Reasons for the exit vary from the search for better opportunities, conditions of service through a biting financial crisis in the industry to the desire to build personal capacity.
YEN.com.gh has however compiled the list of 10 journalists, whose resignations and transfers shocked Ghanaians to the core.
1.Mabel Aku Banasseh
She was a court reporter and adjudged the Journalist of the Year in 2015.
Miss Banasseh who worked with Graphic Communications Group Limited for more than 10 years, resigned in November 2019.
She is now into her own business. She is into communication consultancy and seems to be happy manning her new business, CrediComm.
2.Manasseh Awuni Azure
Respected investigative journalist, Manasseh Awuni Azure sent shockwaves after quitting the Multimedia Group in August 2019.
He had worked there for seven years. He has joined theghanareport.com as an editorial consultant.
3. Gloria Akpene Nyarku also known as MzGee
Multimedia Group also lost lively Gloria Nyarko, alias MzGee who is now with Media General. She was doing good on their entertainment desk.
The reason for her transfer is not publicly known. YEN.com.gh would want to believe that it is part of her career decision.
4. Afia Pokua (Vim lady)
Adom FM also of the MGL brand lost a big name, the fiery Afia Pokua, aka Vim Lady, who was poached by Despite Media Group where she works on UTV and Okay FM. Before her transfer to Despite Media Group, she was a huge force to reckon with at Multimedia.
5. Saddick Adams
A recognised voice in sports journalism, Sadick Obama, also left the Atinka Media Village for Angel Broadcast Network, operators of Angel FM and TV.
6. Giovanni Caleb
The tide of resignations carried away Giovani Caleb and Berla Mundi to Media General. Mr Caleb is now the host of 3FM’s drive time show while Ms. Mundi is on TV3’s morning show, New Day.

8. Kemini Amanor
The GhOne news anchor, according to her, decided to go back to school. When rumors came out that just like her other colleagues, she was leaving because of hardship, she denied.
9. Ato Kwamina Dadzie
An experienced editor, Ato Kwamena Dadzie, also left Ghanaweb and returned to the Multimedia Group as Editor of Myjoyonline.com
10. Ohemaa Woyeje
Mid-morning show host and showbiz commentator, Ohemaa Woyeje, also moved from Adom FM to Angel FM
Dr. Bawumia, during the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference in Accra on December 22, 2019, said the Akufo-Addo government has drastically “tamed” the cedi from its high depreciation.
