Berikisu Tijani: Top Ghanaian female football star is dead

Ghanaian football has been thrown into mourning following the death of former Sea Lions midfielder Berikisu Tijani.

YEN.com.gh has sighted a post on Facebook confirming the death of the young football stars.

According to the report, Berikisu passed on Friday afternoon, January 3, 2020, after a long battle with illness - she was 20 years of age.

During her active days, Berikisu was instrumental in qualifying Sea Lions to the National Women's league in 2016.

She left football for a while to continue with her education after a groin surgery which rendered her incapacitated.

She was one of the budding talents to the National Women's League.

In other news, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has assigned former Black Stars skipper, C.K Akonnor as interim coach for the senior national team.

The ex-Asante Kotoko coach was promoted after the GFA dissolved the technical team of all national teams on Thursday, January 2, 2020.

The GFA’s announcement also technically meant, Kwesi Appiah’s reign as Black Stars coach has also ended.

Kwesi Appiah in November 2019 announced C.K Akonnor as his new deputy and member of his backroom staff of the Black Stars after he said he couldn’t work with coach Ibrahim Tanko again.

C.K Akonnor is now tasked with the responsibility to put together a team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March until a new Black Stars coach is appointed.
