Nigeria’s Door Of Return in danger as top committee claims it is illegal (Photos)

- The Nigerian Diasporan Commission (NIDCOM) has disassociated itself from the trending Door of Return campaign

- According to the NIDCOM, the campaign is illegal and therefore has no authorisation from it

- It has therefore released a statement to clearly state its position with respect to the trending campaign

YEN.com.gh has learned that the proposed Door of Return to be organized by Nigeria is facing stiff challenge by the Nigerian Diasporan Commission (NIDCOM).

According to the Commission, the trending campaign has no authorization and is therefore illegal.

It added that it has totally disassociated itself from the campaign which has meanwhile been criticized for copying Ghana’s Year of Return project.

Per a report by myjoyonline.com, President Akufo-Addo launched the Year of Return In Washington, D.C., in September 2018.

The idea was to attract Africans in the diaspora to Ghana and give fresh impetus to efforts to unite Africans on the continent with their brothers and sisters in the diaspora.

A video that has surfaced online shows the unidentified business owner doing all he can to help douse the fire.

Constant calls by an unidentified man to him to step back fell on deaf ears as he tried to get hold of the water hose.

This continued until both he and a firemen fell down leading to a hot exchange of words. Social media users have meanwhile reacted to the video with some wondering the exact intentions of the khebab seller:

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Benin has joined Nigeria after it took the initiative to follow suit in the Diaspora-targeted program aimed at bringing African-Americans back to their roots.

Benin has however launched their own home ‘Gate of Return’.

According to the report of their official website, the Gate of No Return Marathon and Festival will be held in 2020/21 in Benin, West Africa.
