The president made the unofficial announcement during an interaction with some of the diasporans who visited Ghana in December 2019 for the Year of Return.

President Akufo-Addo told the diasporans the Year of Return was a big success, something he admitted beat his imagination and expectation.
He thus, hinted Ghana will continue with Beyond the Return programme in 2020.
Following the announcement by the President, Ghana’s ambassador to the United States of America, Barfuor Adjei-Barwuah hosted a dinner to outdoor the Beyond the Return initiative and also to say bye-bye to the Year of Return programme on New Year’s Day.
Ambassador Barfuor Adjei-Barwuah co-hosted this private dinner with H.E. Dr. Erieka Bennett (Head of Mission Diaspora Africa Forum), Dr. Kingley Ighobor (Department of Global Comms, United Nations Head Quarters) and the CEO of the EIB Network/Empire, Nat Kwabena Adisi aka Bola Ray.
According to Zionfelix.net, the exquisite dinner also had as its sponsor, CEO & President Goldridge Ghana Limited, Dr. Sledge Nana Yaw Duodo.
The event was hosted in a plush building of Dr. Sledge Nana Yaw Duodo located in Accra.
Some of the people who attended the dinner are; Sarkodie, Okyeame Kwame, Richie Mensah, Wendy Shay, Ricky Anokye (Bullet) and many others who matter in the entertainment industry were present to wine and dine with all the diplomats.
