Accident on the Tano river poisons water; kills fishes and crocodiles in the river

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Offinso North has revealed that an accident on the Tano river has caused the water to become highly poisonous resulting in the death of its creatures

According to the NADMO, the acid in the batteries have diluted into the water after a truckload of batteries from Kumasi to Burkina Faso fell into the Tano River at Techiman-Tanoso, culminating in the death of fishes and crocodiles.

Joy News reports that the accident is said to have occurred directly opposite the Ghana Water Company treatment plant at Techiman-Tanoso.

This, therefore, makes it harmful for human consumption as some communities along the Tano River have been asked to stay away from the water body as it is feared to be poisoned.

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Offinso North, the communities; Techiman, Tanoso, Chira, Duayaw Nkwanta and Bechem are to immediately refrain from drinking from the Tano River till further notice.

District NADMO Coordinator, Mamoa Elijah, in a statement issued on Monday, January 13, 2020, said the order was necessitated by the accident at Tanoso in the Bono East Region, involving an articulated truck carrying car batteries.

In other news, Africa’s richest man, business magnate and entrepreneur, Aliko Dangote has indicated that it is advisable to make investments in Ghana since those investments yield the right returns.

Dangote who was speaking in an interview on Bloomberg TV identified Ghana together with three other countries including his home country Nigeria — where he is establishing a multi-billion-dollar petroleum refinery, as having the right investment climate.

He revealed Accra, which is the capital of Ghana is one of the top investment destinations in the sub-region.
