Fact check: We have not lost Qwikloan data to undersea fibre cut - MTN Ghana

There were rumors on social media and some news platforms that telecommunications giant, MTN Ghana has lost data and records of its Qwikloan services.
The claim alleged that following the telco’s undersea fibre cut which disrupted the internet service of the network for over 48 hours, all record on MTN’s Qwikloan has also been lost.
But YEN.com.gh checks indicate that the story making rounds about MTN’s Qwikloan service was meant to be satirical, as the article was carried out by a satirical website.

The article was only an attempt to ridicule or make fun of the network provider’s recent glitch in data or internet service for its subscribers.
MTN Ghana has since debunked rumours about the loss of data on its Qwikloan services, saying the information is “untrue” and should be disregarded.
“Data on Qwikloan are stored securely and under no circumstance will an undersea fibre cut affect data storage for the service,” MTN said in a statement.
On Thursday, January 16, 2020, subscribers of Ghana’s biggest network were unable to access internet connectivity.
MTN blamed the disruptions on “international undersea fiber cable cut.”
The company subsequently gave an assurance that it is working “tirelessly” to fully restore the mobile data connectivity issues and the challenge was resolved later that Saturday, January 18, 2020.

“We are glad to report that we have resolved all issues with our internet service,” the statement read.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the University Ghana, Legon, has put to test their own version of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) cameras in a match between their male football team and UMAT.
Five cameras plus a drone were used to cover the match. The experiment is the first time Ghana is using the VAR technology in a football match.
