Napoli ended a run of three straight Serie A defeats as they edged out league leaders Juventus 2-1 on Sunday, January 26, at the San Paolo Stadium.
Piotr Zielinski broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute after a goalless first half and with four minutes left to play Lorenzo Insigne made it 2-0 after being set up by Jose Callejon
Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the eight consecutive game late into stoppage time but it was too late as Maurizio Sarri suffered a defeat in his return to his former club.
Ronaldo has now scored eight goals in five games this year as he bagged a hat-trick against Cagliari at the start of 2020.
He soon after followed that up with a goal against AS Roma before grabbing a brace against Parma.
The 34-year-old made it two goals in his last two games against AS Roma when he again found the back of the net in the Coppa Italia midweek before scoring another tonight against Napoli in Naples.
Ronaldo has now scored 17 league goals this season, six behind top scorer Ciro Immobile who has found the back of the net 23 times in the Serie A this season for Lazio.
Juventus 2-1 loss to Napoli means the Old Lady have now been beaten twice in the league and failed to pick up any point on a weekend second-placed Inter Milan dropped points after a 1-1 draw against Cagliari.
Sarri's men remain first in Serie A on 51 points, three points better than Inter Milan who are second with 48 points. Lazio are third with 46 points while Roma maintain fourth position on 39 points.
Napoli climbed to 10th on the SerieA table following the win.
Earlier, YEN reported that Ashley Young, Inter Milan recent signing, needed just 29 minutes to do more than what he did at former club Man United this season.
Making his debut for Inter, Young grabbed an assist in the 29 minute, after planting a perfect cross straight on Lautaro Martínez's head for the Argentine to score his 16th goal in all competitions this season.
Inter Milan went on to draw the game 1-1 as their on-loan star Radja Nainggolan grabbed the equalizer for Cagliari in the 78th minute.
