The National Sports Authority (NSA) has revealed that the clash between the Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium generated GHC 726,380 Ghana cedis or about USD 130,000 in gate proceeds.
In terms of the amount generated at the gate, the GHC 726,380 is now the new record in Ghana.
As reported by Citi Sports, an official of the NSA, Charles Amoah, confirmed the amount to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.
The previous record for revenue generated at the gate was GHC 639,000 and that happened in 2019 when Asante Kotoko took on Cotonsport of Cameroon in the CAF Confederation Cup.
From the amount raised, Hearts will get a slightly larger share since they are the home team with the rest going to Asante Kotoko, the away team, and the National Sports Authority for the use of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Ghana Football Association stated before the match that 37,000 tickets had been printed for fans to purchase and they were sold at GHC 20 for the popular stand and centre line, GHC 30 for the lower VIP, GHC 50 for the upper VIP and GHC 100 for the VVIP.
The match which came off on Sunday, January 26, 2020, saw the Kumasi giants reigning supreme over the Accra-based side with a 2-1 win.
However, their hard work paid off as Justice Blay opened the scoring with a powerful header on the 17th minute after connecting home Augustine Okrah's free-kick.
