Danger looms as SHSs risk being closed down over lack of food and funds

- Some headmasters of Senior High Schools in Ghana are at the risk of closing down due to lack of food and funds

- The affected schools are yet to receive funds since the 2019/2020 academic year started

YEN.com.gh has learned that Senior High Schools (SHSs) in Ghana risk being shut down due to lack of food and funds.

Information available shows that they are yet to receive funds since the 2019/2020 academic year began.

Per a report by Starrfm.com.gh, most of the schools in the Eastern region have run out of food.

Some headmasters, speaking on conditions of anonymity, stated that the situation is terrible.

One of them revealed that “I had to feed students from my pocket from last week and this week.”

Another headmaster noted that “as we speak now, all First years, Green 2nd years and SHS 3 students are all in school but nothing has been paid as at now.”

The Ministry of Education reportedly stated on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, that Senior High Schools were to receive their funds for the academic year within 10 days.

The assurance came after the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS) served a notice that the schools were facing challenges with respect to their operations.

They went on to say that they could not go beyond January 2020 without funding.

In other news, YEN.com.gh has learned that a Science student of Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School has gone viral with amazing artworks of some popular Ghanaians.

In photos that have since gone viral, the student, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, is seen posing with various portraits.

Information available shows that she is affiliated to the Butler House of the school

The artworks include those of the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and dancehall musician, Shatta Wale.

Some social media users have reacted to the photos: Graham stated that the talented ones come from one of the houses in the school.
