After a 12-year break, commuters from Takoradi to Tarkwa have heaved a sigh of relief when the passenger train service commenced work.
The Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) earlier said rehabilitation works on the railway line have been completed and free rides would be available from Takoradi to Tarkwa on January 28, 30 and 31.
By 6:15 am, the train had departed from the Takoradi station to Tarkwa with the first batch of passengers and is expected to depart from the Tarkwa station back to Takoradi at 3:00 pm.
Photos sighted by YEN.com.gh on Myjoyonline shows how excited how some residents and prospective passengers were excited about the sight of the moving train after all the years of redundancy.
”Several successful test runs with the Ghana Railway Development Authority have also been conducted. In light of this, GRCL will provide free passenger service from Takoradi to Tarkwa.
We wish to also indicate that currently, the Western Line is being developed and occasionally there will be the need for GRCL to stop operations to enable the contractor do some civil works on the line,” the company said in a statement.
According to Myjoyonline reports, commercial service would begin on February 5, 2020, but the excitement on the faces of residents who boarded the train for the first time was evident that they could not wait.
In other news, Founder of the Glorious Wave Chapel International, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) needs more prayer to win the 2020 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Accra based Power FM, Badu Kobi noted that the party was not spiritually strong to win the elections.
