Nigerian stowaways heading to Europe land in Ghana’s Tema port city instead

Ghana’s port officials have arrested three Nigerians who wanted to stowaway to Europe but ended up at the Tema port.

The three Nigerian nationals are Kelvin Popoola, 26, Isaac Daniels, 32 and 28-year-old Nuta.

According to a statement from the port officials, the trio are currently in the custody of the police.

The statement further explained that the three men sneaked into an MV Unity vessel from Apapa Port in Nigeria which was apparently heading to Ghana.

One of the arrested stowaways, Isaac Daniels has been identified as a serial stowaway who was arrested in 2019 for similar offenses.

He was deported to Nigeria with a $600 package, officials told the media.

Meanwhile, an officer at the Tema Port in charge of security, Col Punamane said the issue of stowaways being disembarked at the port is becoming a major concern.

He noted that they have stepped up efforts to deal with such crimes.

In April 2018, six Tunisian stowaways were arrested at the Tema Port raising concerns about safety at Ghana’s ports of entry.

A similar incident occurred in August 2018 after two Ghanaian teenagers were also arrested by port officials.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the founder of the Glorious Wave Church, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi has cautioned Ghanaians to be critical of the Electoral Commission to ensure they deliver a clean, free and fair elections.

According to Prophet Badu Ghanaians should not trust the EC to do a good job in the upcoming 2020 polls.

Speaking in an interview on Power FM in Accra, the renowned preacher revealed that the Commission will be engaging some persons to assist with the coalition of the election results, and this is likely to spark violence.
