In a Joy News report, Akufo-Addo mentioned the hardships the shutting down of the mine brought to the community whose major preoccupation was mining.

The president, in fulfillment of a 2016 campaign pledged to the people of Obuasi, indicated that his assumption of office would help with Re-Development Project of the Obuasi mine.

Addressing the gathering, the President noted that the vision of the project has been to deliver a modern, state-of-the-art, mechanized underground mine, that would enable AngloGold Ashanti Limited to mine its 30-million-ounce ore body over the next two decades.
