President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has expressed his delight at how productive and profitable the return to production of the Anglogold Ashanti Gold mine have been after six years of redundancy.
According to Akufo-Addo, the revival of the Obuasi mine shows to the rest of the world how the mines would help in the development of the country.
He made this known while speaking at a commemoratory event of the first gold pour of the Anglogold Ashanti Mine, on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
In a Joy News report, Akufo-Addo mentioned the hardships the shutting down of the mine brought to the community whose major preoccupation was mining.
The president, in fulfillment of a 2016 campaign pledged to the people of Obuasi, indicated that his assumption of office would help with Re-Development Project of the Obuasi mine.
Addressing the gathering, the President noted that the vision of the project has been to deliver a modern, state-of-the-art, mechanized underground mine, that would enable AngloGold Ashanti Limited to mine its 30-million-ounce ore body over the next two decades.
In other news, Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Francis Addai Nimoh has accused the executives of the party in the Mampong constituency of frustrating his efforts to pick up nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primaries.
In a letter addressed to the party’s regional executives, Mr. Addai Nimoh said the Mampong constituency executives are deliberately scheming to prevent him from contesting the primaries.
He, however, appealed to the party authorities to intervene.
