Queen Elizabeth II of England has moved to number 5 in the list of world's longest-reigning monarchs.

The queen reached the new milestone when she surpassed the record of the 19th-century emperor of Austria Franz Joseph I.

YEN gathers that the queen surpassed the emperor's record when she spent 67 years and 356 days on the throne, while Franz Joseph I was in power for 67 years and 355 days on the throne.

Recall that the queen who is respected across the world currently holds the title of the world's longest-living reigning monarch. She is also the longest-reigning British monarch.

Louis XIV of France is the world's longest-reigning monarch, having ruled for 72 years and 110 days, followed by Bhumibol Adulyadej who ruled for 70 years and 126 days.

Johann II of Liechtenstein is the third world's longest-reigning monarch, having ruled for 70 years and 91 days, followed by seventh-century Mayan ruler K'inich Janaab' Pakal who spent 68 years and 33 days on the throne.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh previously reported that Queen Elizabeth II announced that she would be backing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step down as senior members of the Royal Family.

The queen in a statement to British media houses on Monday, January 13, said that she and the royal family were fully in support of the duke and duchess of Sussex's move.

In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, the queen and her entire family agreed to a period of transition during which the Sussex Royals will split their time between Canada and the UK.

The statement read: "Today my family had a very constructive discussion on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family."
