The 2020 edition of the Millenium Excellence Awards has been launched in Accra on Thursday, February 13, 2020.
The 2020 edition which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Millenium Excellence Foundation will, for the first time, allow the general public to have a say by nominating from a pool of potential winners.
In its lifetime, the Millenium Excellence Awards which is one of the most prestigious awards in the country has honoured the best institutions and individuals in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy for their varied contributions to national development through a system determined by the foundation.
But this time, the foundation is opening it to the public. Already, 1650 individuals and organisations have been nominated in 35 categories, and the public would be called upon to help select deserving winners through a nominating process.
Held every 5 years under the auspices of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who is the life patron, this will be the fifth edition.
Speaking at the launch, the President of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, Ambassador Ashim Morton, urged patrons and supporters of the awards to strive for excellence.
“We want this year to be a milestone in enhancing the Millenium Excellence Foundation’s profile in the world.
“As such, all patrons and supporters will have to align themselves with our mandate, past laureates and soon to be mentioned 2020 laureates to strive for excellence,” he said.
The launch which was held at the Labadi Beach Hotel saw many dignitaries including Nana Dr SKB Asante, the Paramount Chief of Asokore Mampong, who represented Otumfuo, in attendance.
Others included former Ghana Revenue Authority boss Mr George Blankson, U.S Ambassador to Ghana Ms Stephanie Sullivan, 2nd deputy speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, MTN CEO – Selom Adadevoh, Rev Dr Lawrence Tetteh and others.
This year’s edition of the awards come off in July.
