The National Democratic Congress (NDC) did the unthinkable when they held a press conference on the banks of River Pra at Twifo Praso in the Central Region to address issues on illegal mining (galamsey) in the country.

The presser which was addressed by the Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, was also attended by other top officials of the party.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi challenged the NPP government to account for all the excavators, ammunitions and gold seized during the Stop the Galamsey campaign.

He alleged that the NPP government seized over 900 excavators during the period.

The NDC demands that the Akufo Addo government as a matter of urgency fully account for all items seized as listed in paragraphs 801 of the 2020 budget statement presented to the House of Parliament.”

The opposition National Democratic Congress also revealed that they will petition the UN to revoke the appointment of President Akufo-Addo as Co-Chair of the SDG Advocates.

According to the NDC, Akufo-Addo has not shown genuine commitment to the fight against illegal mining and the protection of the environment in his own country.

They opined that Akufo-Addo cannot continue to hold himself as an SDG advocate because of the destructive manifestation of galamsey activities under his watch as president.
