Woman who survived fatal accident in 1993 narrates she's still affected after 27 years (Video)

- A 57-year-old Ghanaian woman by name Kafui Akatu has narrated how a 27-year-old disastrous road accident still affects her daily life

- According to Kafui, the accident occurred on the Suhum road and she was lucky to survive as 22 lives were lost

- Life has not been the same for the fire service officer since the accident as her life has taken a difficult path to this day

Kafui Akua Dansoa Akatu, a 57-year-old retired Ghanaian fire service officer has narrated how her daily life is still affected by an accident she suffered on the Suhum road 27 years ago.

In an interview with JoyNews, Kafui narrates that 22 lives were lost in the disastrous accident that occurred in 1993 and she, a survivor, had to spend an entire year at the Korle Bu Hospital before getting discharged.

It is indicated that the accident was so infamous, it was named the Suhum 22 afterwards. From the moment of the accident to this day, Kafui describes that life has not been the same.

First of all, from being an active fire service officer, she was made redundant as she was unable to discharge her duties any longer.

Kafui indicates that this was why she has even been asked to proceed on retirement, although she is less than 60. The disaster left Kafui permanently scarred with severe injuries to her hand, leg and head.

The retired officer recalls that an articulator truck which was overtaking a bus collided head-on with the minibus she was in, rendering her car completely beyond repairs.

According to her, she has been declared 55 per cent physically challenged and 5 per cent out of shape. Though unable to do much, Kafui spends her life impacting society the best way she can, championing fire safety and girl child education.
