SONA 2020: Key highlights from Akufo-Addo's address

- President Akufo-Addo delivered the State of the Nation's Address in Parliament

- He touched on the various issues in the various sectors of the economy

President Akufo-Addo earlier today, February 20, 2020, delivered the state of the nation's address which touched on the various issues in the various sectors of the economy.

He touched on issues from health, the banking sector clean-up, tourism, education and what have you.

Below are certain highlights from the address;

President Akufo-Addo said the government has not stopped building toilet facilities, He said the government would do more in order to reduce open defecation.

With regards to Coronavirus, President Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians that those students in China would be evacuated if necessary.

On the economy, Akufo-Addo said for the first time in 2 decades, the balance of trade has been in surplus for 3 consecutive years.

Akufo-Addo confirmed what Bawumia said at the town hall meeting that, they have fulfilled their manifesto by 78% and no facts have been brought to challenge that assertion.

Akufo-Addo said all depositors of savings and loans and microfinance companies would receive 100% deposits.

Dumsor: Akufo-Addo stated that his government has been able to solve the dumsor menace.

The president added that before the end of the year 2020, Ghana will have a fully-working national identification system.

Akufo-Addo added that Ghana is one of the fastest-growing economies.

Nana Addo also added that his government is tackling the housing problems facing the military.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised the people of the Oti Region the NPP administration will construct a university in the area in its second term if given the opportunity and mandate.

“If God permits and we win the next elections, we will put in place structures to establish a university here as well,” Akufo-Addo said at a durbar in Jasikan on Monday, February 17, 2020.

The president opined that the six newly created regions will have all the needed infrastructure and facilities that will make life bearable.
