SONA 2020: A lot of Ghanaians are overweight; they need to watch their lifestyle - Nana Addo

In a bid to ensure that Ghanaians live a healthy life devoid of any ailments, President Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to eat well and avoid getting obese.

Sparking laughter in the house while presenting his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Thursday, February 20, 2020, he said 'Too many of us are overweight'

According to a report filed by PeaceFMonline, Nana Addo added that the nation has made progress in eradicating the communicable diseases that used to be the main cause of mortality, there is a new trend that is fast taking the lives of many Ghanaians - lifestyle disease.

"We’re in danger of falling into the lifestyle disease trap…too many of us are overweight and obesity is an increasing problem even among young people.

The food we eat, mode of cooking and the lack of exercise are all now having a great impression on our health," he said.

Akufo-Addo, however, urged Ghanaians to learn to take responsibility for their individual health and take note that their health is determined by their lifestyle.

Meanwhile, member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, who doubles as the minister of communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has reproached the Minority caucus in parliament for boycotting the State of the Nation Address.

The minority which announced earlier that they would be boycotting the session found their way out of parliament immediately the national anthem ended.

Speaking on the matter, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful without mincing words, said the decision to boycott the proceedings was senseless.
