Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been challenged to a public debate on Ghana’s economy.

The challenge is coming from a leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, MP for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo.

The NDC MP says a face-to-face debate with the vice president on the country’s economy will also afford Ghanaians the opportunity to interact and assess figures put out by the two.

Mr. Adongo claims some of the figures put out in the public by Dr. Bawumia are false and misleading. He opined that a public debate will ensure no one hides in their corner to produce or cook up numbers.

I want to meet him face to face and ask him to defend these numbers in the full glare of Ghanaians.  If they are able to find any magic to dispute the cooking they are doing, I will resign from politics for good,” the parliamentarian said at a forum organised by the Coalition for Restoration.

The NDC MP has consistently accused the Vice President of cooking up figures to support or score political points.

Speaking at a maiden Town Hall meeting in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia painted a glossy picture of the economy under the three-year watch of the NPP government.

But the minority parliamentarian says the government has been massaging figures since taking over power in 2017.
