Alphonso Davies: Meet the Ghana-born star who helped Bayern Munich defeat Chelsea 3-0

The Munich-based club on the said day thrashed Chelsea 3-0 at the Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League on February 25, 2020.

Bayern Munich dominated Chelsea right from the referee's start whistle and they could have even scored more than 3 goals if some chances had been converted.

One player who has been praised by many following the German invasion is 19-year-old left-back Alphonso Davies.

The youngster was superb during the game as his constant overlapping caused a lot of problems for Chelsea.

Well, YEN.com.gh has uncovered some facts about Davies after his splendid display.

For many people who do not know, Davies was born in Buduburam, a refugee camp in the Gomoa East District of Ghana, to Liberian parents.

His parents lived in Buduburam after fleeing their home country during the Second Liberian Civil War, which displaced more than 450,000 Liberians.

When Davies was five, his family moved to Canada as refugees, and moved to Windsor, Ontario, before relocating a year later to Edmonton.

After playing for Edmonton Internationals, and Edmonton Strikers, Davies joined the Whitecaps FC Residency in 2015 at the age of 14.

After joining Vancouver Whitecaps FC during their 2016 MLS preseason tour, Davies signed with Whitecaps FC 2 in the USL on February 23, 2016.

At the time of his signing, he became the youngest player signed to a USL contract at 15 years, 3 months. Davies made his professional debut for Whitecaps FC 2 at the age of 15 years, 5 months in April 2016.

On May 15, 2016, he scored his first professional goal, making him the youngest goal scorer in USL history at 15 years, 6 months.

He scored two goals in 11 games played during the 2016 season.

Davies joined Bayern Munich in 2019 and he has gone on to play 25 games scoring two goals in the process.
