5 controversial ministers in the Akufo-Addo government

Since the Akufo-Addo's administration assumed office in January 2017, a lot of issues have been heard with regards to his ministers.

A number of them have been in the news for a lot of reasons with regards to their discharge of duties and conduct in public.

YEN.com.gh has compiled a list of the top 5 controversial ministers in the Akufo-Addo government.

1. Ursula Owusu-Ekurful

The communications minister of the Akufo-Addo government Minister hasAddo's over the last few weeks being sighted in a lot of controversial issues. Recent among the list off controversies she is found saying is the fact that she said they are the owner of the country and that it would be over her dead body if NDC should come to power. Also after the NDC walked out of parliament, she said that that act of theirs was senseless.

2. Samuel Osei Mensah

Following the recent robbery attacks, killings and constant fire outbreaks in the Ashanti Region, the Ashanti Regional minister, Samuel Osei Mensah said he is not to be blamed for whatever misfortunes that happens in his region. According to him, if husbands make up their minds to take the life of their spouses, he has nothing to do about it.

3. Kweku Amoako Atta

The roads minister, Kweku Amoako Atta has been at the centre of controversies regarding a lot of deplorable road stories. Prominent of these stories is the Teshie-LEKMA road, When JoyNews launched their campaign on the 'FixLEKMAroads', he said no social media campaign can force government to do what they are not ready to do. According to him, when the time was due, that particular stretch would be fixed without any issues. He also made the headlines when he ordered the arrest of a foreigner working on a project which was not sighted properly. He subsequently ordered, the demolition of that particular structure.

4. Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh

The minister of education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh is one out of the many Akufo-Addo ministers who is not really liked by the nation. Despite the fact that he oversees the teachers, they do not find him as one who fights for their best interests. Yet to be posted teachers are always finding issues with his ministry. Also the fact that he issued a directive that striking teachers, who found themselves out of the classroom would not be paid. Others believe his actions are controversial. Few days ago, he was in the news for having to be a beneficiary of the GETFund scholarship when he clearly did not need it.

5. Bryan Acheampong

The Abetifi MP who was formerly the Minister of State at the Ministry of National Security was in the news for all that happened at the Ayawaso West Wuogon By-elections held in 2019. According to news sources he was responsible for all the 'macho' men who were directed to the venue of the by-elections. It was alleged that one of his houses was a base to train the militia groups that were at the centre of the Ayawaso controversy.

In other news, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central constituency, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, has stated that Members of Parliament (MPs) have no justification whatsoever to benefit from the GETfund scholarships.

According to a report filed by PeaceFMonline, he said it is quite shameful for a member of parliament to benefit from any GETFund scholarship scheme.

He made this statement while speaking in an interview with Maame Biamah Kwafo on Neat FM.
