Fact check: Akufo-Addo’s government doesn’t have a 123-man cabinet

The size of President Nana Akufo-Addo's government has been a topic of debate since 2017 when he announced persons who will help him run the affairs of Ghana.

He has been massively criticized by Ghanaians and his political opponents over the seize of his government.

The Nana Addo-led administration has over 110 ministers, at least 20 ministers more than its predecessors appointed.

The NDC flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, has also criticized President Akufo-Addo over the size of his government, while promising to reduce it drastically if elected into power in 2020.

The size of the NPP government led to speculations that the government has a 123-man cabinet.

This allegation was peddled by a tweet with handle @EromoEgbejule.

The tweet also made allegations with respect to the “family ties” that exist between the President and some members of his government.

This falsehood was also carried out on other social media platforms and some inline platforms.

YEN.com.gh can state categorically that President Akufo-Addo doesn’t have a Cabinet size of 123 members.

The President is required by law to appoint a Cabinet to assist him/her determine government policies.

The constitution further stipulates the composition of the Cabinet – the President, the Vice President and ‘not less than 10 and not more than 19 Ministers of State.”

So in line with the laws of the land, President Akufo-Addo appointed a 19-member cabinet who are all substantive ministers of his government. None of them is a deputy minister in 2017.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the embattled Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo says he is not afraid or worried about calls for his removal from office.

Mr. Domelevo said, if he is ousted from office he will not go hungry and that will not be the end of his world.

He opined that he will go into farming if he is sacked or removed from office.
