Explainer: All you need to know at the Sogakope brouhaha so far

- The murder of the Assemblyman of Sogakope South Electoral Area on Sunday led to chaos and rioting by the youth of the area

On Sunday, March 1, 2020, an Assemblyman in Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region was stabbed and shot dead at 1am at his residence.

Initial reports also indicated that the deceased's wife also sustained some knife wounds in the process of the attack.

She was rushed to the hospital and has been receiving treatment.

The deceased, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli, alias Mac Greenline was loved by the youth and people in the area for his good deeds.

The youth in the area were angered by the killing of the Assemblyman. They accused the police of not responding on time to the distress call when the attack was happening.

The residents say the police station is about five minutes away from the house where the robbery took place.

The irate youth blocked major roads in the Sogakope township in protest to the death of the Mac Greenline.

The action of the youth caused massive traffic in the Sogakope township on Sunday. Calm and peace were restored eventually when law enforcement agents moved to diffuse tempers.

On Monday, March 3, 2020, the youth mounted another roadblock on the main Accra-Aflao road, burnt car tyres and attacked the District Police Station over the murder of the Assemblyman of Sogakope.

The youth clashed with the police eventually and things deteriorated, leading to some persons being hit by stray bullets when the security personnel decided to disperse the crowd.

The irate youth have eventually given the police three days to arrest the suspects in the gruesome murder.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the South Tongu, Emmanuel Luis Agama, has promised to give out GHC10,000 to anybody who gives out information that will lead to the arrest of the killers of the Assemblyman for the Sogakope South Electoral Area.

Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister has promised the youth the police will make sure the killers are arrested and brought to book.
