Nadine Dorries, the health minister of the United Kingdom (UK), on Tuesday, March 10, admitted that she has been infected with the coronavirus.
According to BBC, Dorries started showing symptoms of the disease since Thursday, March 5, when she attended a minister at Downing Street with Prime minister Boris Johnson and has been in self-isolation since Friday, March 6.
The minister at the said meeting signed the document which declared coronavirus a notifiable epidemic in the country.
Speaking on her health status and how she has been coping with the disease, Dorries said: “I would like to thank… the wonderful NHS staff who have provided me with advice and support.”
So far, health officials are trying to ascertain how many persons the minister had contact with before she tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, YEN reported that the battle against coronavirus had recorded a massive breakthrough as a 100-year-old patient from China had been reportedly discharged after recovering from the life-threatening disease.
The centenarian was among the 80 people who recovered from the disease and were discharged on Saturday, March 7.
He was released from the wing of Hubei Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital in Wuhan where the epidemic was first discovered.
The man was admitted on February 24, after showing signs of Alzheimer’s disease, hypertension and heart failure.
Since its outbreak in China, coronavirus had been responsible for thousands of death with over 90,000 people across over 77 countries already put on the red line of the infection. 95,500 cases of the virus had been confirmed globally, with more than 80,000 in China as the epidemic spreads beyond boundaries.
Italy has become the first country in the world to witness the largest number of daily casualties occasioned by coronavirus after 49 people were confirmed dead on Sunday, March 8, by the authorities.
Since its outbreak in China, Italy has by far recorded the largest number of case of the epidemic in Europe with confirmed cases shockingly soaring up from 5,883 to 7,375 on Saturday.
