In a world where women have to challenge patriarchal systems to blaze trails, Dr. Lori S. White has attained a laudable feat after being named the 21st president of DePauw University, becoming the first woman African-American president.

Becauseofthemwecan.com reports that Tribune-Star amplified the story of White, who has made history in the school’s over 180-year history.

White had unanimous votes by the Depauw University Board of Trustees.

Until her recent appointment, Dr. White served as the vice chancellor for student affairs at the Washington University in St. Louis during her 30-year career in education.

She also served as professor of practice in the Wash University Department of Education and clinical professor of education at Southern Methodist University in Texas.

White made history not just as the first Black woman president at DePauw but also as the only African-American woman heading a university in the State of Indiana.

White comes from a family tree of educators; her father, Joseph L. White, was the first African-American to receive a doctorate in clinical psychology from Michigan State.

The trail blazer’s sister is also in education as a geologist, serving as the director of education and outreach at the University of California Museum of Paleontology
