- Emmanuel Adebayor was sent-off in a Copa Libertadores fixture
- The Togolese joined Paraguayan club Olimpia Asuncion in February
- The 36-year-old described the tackle he made a 'Jackie Chan challenge'
Emmanuel Adebayor was sent off in the 73rd minute of the Olimpia Asuncion’s game against Defensa y Justicia in the Copa Libertadores for a dangerous tackle.
The Togolese forward joined the Paraguayan club on a free transfer from Turkish side Kayserispor in February 2020 and has failed to score to the displeasure of the home fans.
The ex-Arsenal, Man City and Tottenham striker further shocked the fans when he was sent off for karate-kicking an opponent.
The 36-year-old had attempted to control an aerial ball, but his foot was raised too high as he collided with an opponent who went down unto the turf.
Defensa's Enzo Coacci appeared to have been hit by Adebayor’s boot, but another camera angle showed that his boot had touched the shoulder.
After the game, Adebayor tweeted: "Tough game today! What a great team spirit, and what a win boys. Sad to leave the pitch early on a Jackie Chan challenge.
"It was never my intention to hurt my opponent, and I am glad he is okay."
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the ex-Arsenal and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has completed a transfer move to Paraguayan side Club Olimpia as the club announced signing the player back in February.
Since he left Turkey, the former Togo international became free agent and there were reports linking him with a return to the Premier League.
Having played in the Premier League, Spanish La Liga, France and in Turkey, Emmanuel Adebayor has crossed many hurdles in his football career.
He is now expected to have a reunion with former teammate at Manchester City Roque Santa Cruz who has been at the club since four years ago.
So far in his career, Emmanuel Adebayor has only won one title which was the 2010/11 Copa del Rey with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
On international level, Emmanuel Adebayor played 87 games for Togo where he scored 32 goals for the African nation.
Meanwhile his former manager at Arsenal Arsene Wenger has taken a swipe at Manchester City over their recent ban from Champions League as the Frenchman claimed the Citizens should be punished if they are guilty of what they have been accused of.
Recently, the hammer of the UEFA fell on Manchester City banning them for two seasons from Champions League as they claimed the Citizens have breached their fair play rules.
The decision came as a shock for Manchester City coaching crew, fans and the players with reports claiming that some of the big stars at the Etihad stadium could be leaving this summer if the ban is not lifted.
