Ghanaian Instagram model Efia Odo has called on pastors to support and give back to their church members in these coronavirus times.
She said this is the time for the pastors to show they appreciate the many years their members have paid tithes and offertory.
Efia Odo suggested that supplies of hand sanitizers, door-to-door delivery of food, and other forms of support would be very helpful to the church members.
Her comments have sparked a debate on Instagram with people siding with her while others kicked against her view.
Airwuah, for instance, said Efia Odo has not right to offer any advice to pastors:
airwuah: “you can’t tell pastors what to do just like no one tells you what to do with your life.”
Annaman also attacked Efia Odo:
f.annaman: “Talking like this makes you feel so wise isn't it?”
Nice also said she and the others will continue to pay the tithes:
madeniceee__: “We will pay our offerings and tithes regardless. We are not complaining. We know what we gain from paying our tithes. It is our money and we will keep paying!!!”
However, Kyei, said he has learnt a lesson since the coronavirus outbreak:
kobby.kyei: “I’ve learnt a lot in these times.”
Mercy also shared the same sentiment:
mercylinaosei: “@kobby.kyei hmmm serious ooo Same here I av really really learnt a lot.”
Kathrine recounted how her aunty is suffering but her pastor has refused to offer any help:
__katherine_hammond: “It's true my cuz and his mom with his two little sisters were sacked sometime last year and they had no where they run to the church and didn't get help from no one it's a pity cause still they moving from uncompleted houses to houses cause no one is there to help.”
Mike also agreed with Efia Odo:
mikeprazshowedyou: “Haaa! This is funny,..you dam right they ain't doing dat... yesterday I saw a video of one of the richer ones saying if you on lockdown put the money in a envelope go slide it under the churches door, don't miss tithing.”
Efia Odo had earlier questioned the thought behind the famous hellfire teaching by the church.
She gave reasons why that teaching should be disregarded.
Meanwhile, one Ghanaian pastor based in the UK has said that it is not the duty of the church to supply hand sanitizer and others to the members.
