Facebook has introduced a Community Hub to provide a platform to deal with rumours about the coronavirus which has spread all over the world.
The Hub, which is available on Facebook Messenger, provides tips, official information and useful resources to inform and educate over 2.7 billion users about the outbreak.
The move comes after Facebook launched a similar hub for users on WhatsApp, its other messaging service.
Messenger is used by over one billion people and the hub comes at a time of rapid exchange of information via messaging and voice calls, techcrunch.com reports.
According to Stan Chudnovsky, the vice president of Messenger at Facebook, there has been an increasing number of people who use Messenger for group calls to connect with family and friends.
He added that there has been a 70% increase in the use of group calls and the time spent on group video calls.
Meanwhile, Facebook recently admitted that its campaign to rid its platform of fake news related to the coronavirus led to the blocking of legitimate links.
According to Facebook’s Guy Rosen, the act was a result of a bug in the anti-spam system and is not in any way related to the company’s content moderator workforce.
He added that measures are currently underway to fix the errors and return all legitimate posts that were affected.
The assurance comes after Facebook’s platform suffered from the effects of a bug in its News Feed spam filter.
