Police shoot armed robber dead in Savannah region

- A notorious armed robber, Hassan Lanya, has been shot dead in the Savannah region

- Lanya was shot dead during altercation with the police on Saturday, March 28, 2020

- The deceased was leading a three-man gang in a robbery on the Bole-Bamboi-Wa highway

Police in the Bole district of the Savannah region has shot and killed an armed robber operating on the Bole-Bamboi-Wa highway.

The notorious robber, identified as Hassan Lanya, was shot dead on Saturday, March 29, 2020.

According to a report YEN.com.gh sighted on Myjoyonline.com, Lanya and two others planned a robbery on the highway but got thwarted after the police got wind of their operation.

Lanya and his two accomplices reportedly arrived at Banankwanta in preparation for their robbery operation.

After realising that the police had traced his hideout, the deceased attacked the officers who were tracking him.

His two accomplices joined in the attack but the police got an upper hand and shot Layan while the accomplices escaped.

Lanya was sent to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The deceased who is said to have been the leader of the three-man gang was already wanted by the police for robbery.
