COVID-19: Extension of lockdown depends on test results of 15,000 contact traced - Akufo-Addo

- President Akufo-Addo has revealed that the extension of the lockdown directive may or may not be possible

- According to him, it is dependent on the test results of the over 15,000 contacts traced

- He said the results would be critical for such a decision to be taken

President Akufo-Addo has in his fifth address on coronavirus measures to the nation explained that the extension of the lockdown would depend on the test results of the 15,000 out of the 19, 000 contacts traced.

According to him, the results from the test carried out on such persons would be very critical in Ghana's decisions in the next few weeks.

Akufo-Addo added that of the 1,030 travellers who were mandatorily quarantined and tested on their arrival in Ghana on the 21st and 22nd of March, 105 of them tested positive and had been isolated for treatment.

It could be recalled that in on of the president's address to the nation on the measures put in place by the government to curtail the spread of the virus, all travellers were to be mandatorily quarantined for 14 days.

This singular act by government help check the possible community spread if these persons had been allowed to move freely in the country.

In a bid to lift the burden of the shoulders of the many Ghanaians during this lockdown enforcement, President Akufo-Addo has ordered the Ghana Water Company (GWC) Ltd to provide free uninterrupted supply of water to all Ghanaians amid the coronavirus pandemic.

This takes effect for the months of April, May and June in 2020.

President Akufo-Addo issued the directive in a televised broadcast to the nation to provide an update on the latest enhanced measures taken by the government in the fight for the preventive and containment of the coronavirus pandemic.

This is part of efforts by the government to ameliorate the economic challenges as a result of the deadly coronavirus that has taken lives, hospitalised many, crashed stock markets, and impacted global health systems.
